Prayer Requests and a Sneak Peek

I know we have been a little more silent these days. The reality is that there is not much to report or update. Our days and nights blur together. And the snowstorm this week slowed things down. The second part of this week we took some steps backward which was discouraging when the steps forward have felt rather small. But this weekend we have stabilized again for which we are grateful! The nausea has been manageable and we are seeing her develop more upper body and core strength. She is holding her head up so much better and is able to pull herself to one side of the bed, etc. She feels less fragile to me and that is a gift. She was so beat up from surgeries and so many tubes, etc. I felt nervous even straightening her pillows. I can now help turn her in bed and even help her put on a sweater, etc.

Ways you can continue to pray:

  • You can continue to pray for wisdom with her medicines and for strength for her therapies
  • Pray that we would know how to walk through these days and be a strength to Mom and be a testimony to those around us
  • Continue to pray for her nausea and for good rest at night
  • Pray for Mom as she continues to process and grieve her new reality
  • Pray for Dad and me as we figure out a new schedule as Elisabeth flew home today. (What a blessing my sisters have been and my wonderful brothers-in-law who have helped to make it possible for them to be here)
  • Pray for the Lord’s timing in our move to the next facility. We still have not heard from insurance but we are thankful that we were able to weather out the snowstorm at Cardinal Hill.

While staying with Mom last night, her nurse paid me a very high compliment, she said it was obvious that I was Mom’s daughter. She could see the resemblance. I quickly told her that I wanted to not just LOOK like her but BE like her. She had paid me a higher compliment than she even realized. I told her my prayer is that I could learn to trust Jesus no matter what and live in truth like my Mom. Even though these are the hardest days we have ever lived through I wish you all had the privilege of being at her side like we do.

Here is a sneak peek:

  • She affirms and loves on each nurse, nurses aide, therapist, case worker and doctor.
  • When she does something well in therapy she will give a high five to the therapist and then always lift her good hand to the sky. She is acknowledging and thanking Jesus for helping her but it always makes me smile as it looks like she is high-fiving Jesus!
  • Today in a real desire to do something ‘normal’ she asked to write a thank you note. I held the card steady for her and she wrote away. Afterwards Elisabeth and I read it to make sure it made sense, etc. It not only made sense, she quoted Scripture and spoke clearly from the heart. She is amazing!

She has taught us all not to take anything for granted and to thank Jesus for everything.

We know may of you are walking through your own journeys. And we would be honored to pray for you as well. My Mom would have thought to do this earlier but we are a bit slower. If there are ways we can be praying for you all please send us a note to the email address (journeywithkaty@gmail.com)The reality is that Mom prays for many of you already. And we would be honored to carry you as you have and are faithfully carrying us.

  1. It was so good to hear from you tonight! I have been praying and hoping you were still at Cardinal Hill. This journey is such a deep pit that when she is restored to complete health, she will have a whole new lesson for “The Worst Day of David’s Life.” Katy is a saint and loved my so many people. We are all blessed to know her. Thank you for sharing. Love all of you!

    1. What a marvelous, unselfish offer to ask for prayer requests from your friends when you have so many urgent prayer requests. I’m sure some of us will take you up on your offer over the coming weeks. So glad your Mom is still at Cardinal Hill.

  3. I am encouraged to hear that Katy’s nausea has been more manageable this week in spite of any setbacks. I have been praying for that specifically. I have also been praying for you and your dad as her primary support system. I have been in your shoes with my own mother, although Mom’s stroke was not as severe as Katy’s was. She also did not have the surgical wounds to heal. There were many similarities in her healing process. She is almost 92 and doing well now, but the strokes last changed many things I had taken for granted. I am now a caretaker as well as a daughter. It is a deep privilege, and I am blessed that it is possible for me to do this, but there are also many challenges. I will continue to pray for all of you in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Your updates about this journey you are all on has touched me deeply. I have been inspired to pray more and to be grateful for more. Thank you for your offer to pray for all of us as well. I pray right now that this new week will bring new strength, encouragement, and progress for Katy and for all of you.

  5. So glad for the sincere and heart-felt update on progress and needs. We have been praying about Katy being moved as that is not easy in itself. And snowstorms have a way of changing a lot around us. We live northwest of Pittsburgh and had about an inch, but 2 hours east had over 3 feet. So now you wait to find out about a new facility, so we pray for that move. Be blessed as you share together as family and I am sure all who come in contact with you today will see Jesus!

  6. Thank-you for taking the time to give us all an update. We are so honored to be apart of this journey with Katy. Each triumph is another reason to Praise God and know He will help you overcome and live more victorious, even in this situation. What an inspiration of grace, to see God honored in such a way, even in the valley and NOW, in the monotony of new every day experiences and routines. I remember Pastor Mackey preaching that is where the real battle for our hearts lies, in the every day monotony of normal everyday things. IT is easy to get lulled into tunnel vision and just seeing your own needs. Katy shows Jesus in her by continuing to see others’ needs, even in the every day,

  9. Jody and I continue to pray earnestly for Katy’s physical and emotional challenges as well as for each member of the family. God has given Katy and Stan such a powerful ministry into so many peoples lives over many years including ours. God is not wasting what we easily perceive as a tragedy. God does his best work in us and through us during our hardest hours. That miracle of God’s grace is flowing through Stan, Katy and each of you in the family to us daily.

  10. Dear Anna, Thanks for the update. I think once or twice a week now will be fine.

Will your mom go to the place in nicholasville that Jeanine went to after Cardinal Hill?

I continue to pray daily for your mom. God knows her needs and cares for her and for you girls and your dad.

Im sorry that amer insurance is often more about money than what is best for the ill. my brother was dying when his ins co wanted to stop paying. Im so grateful to live in a country where good med care is considered to be the right of all.

Is Elisabeth doing better nausea wise?

    Love you, Ilka
